It was a warm sunny day in Charlotte, North Carolina. The birds chirped sweet songs as the paperboy was out pridefully delivering the newspaper. As the newspaper left the muscly paperboy’s arm and fell to the ground, a date could be read. It was April 2, 1996. It was on this day that a legend was born. They named him Austin Burke and as he deadlifted the doctor immediately upon being conceived, it was evident this wasn’t your average baby. Flash forward 21 years to a local gym called Sport HQ and this man can be found. Austin has competed in college football, drug-free bodybuilding, and powerlifting and has over 10 years of training experience. He currently holds two North Carolina records for deadlifting in the United States Powerlifting Association and is looking to break more in the upcoming future. He currently is in his last year of a Bachelors program at North Carolina State University and is a Certified Personal trainer through the National Academy of Sports Medicine. He specializes in strength, power, and mobility. Austin’s favorite quote is to, “Embrace the suck.” He emphasizes committing yourself to a goal and taking things one rep, set, or workout at a time are crucial to your success and that you have to enjoy the process and “fall in love with the grind.” He continues to train for powerlifting and hopes to provide the strength and performance guidance to young athletes that he needed when he was younger.
